5 Balayage Inspiration
Looking for Balayage Inspiration?
Lots of trends come and go in the hairdressing industry but balayage has been around a while and due to its versatility, it is here to stay.
Although Oxford has added the word to
their dictionary, ‘Balayage’ comes from the French language. It means sweeping
which describes the long painting strokes used to apply colour to your hair in
this technique.
This revolutionary colouring technique
was developed in France in the 1970’s using freehand painting instead of the
most commonly utilised foil wraps or highlight caps.
Just like an artist,
stylists paint on the colour with trained strokes that will create a stunning,
natural look for your locks. Balayage technique can be applied to all hair
types from fine to thick to add texture and intensity to your colour. It can be
used on pixie cuts but the best result is on medium to long hair.
Originally, the technique was mainly requested by brunettes but the balayage bug has spread to blondes and redheads. The sun-kissed, effortless effect can give you the “I just stepped off a tropical beach” look.
Another plus of this colouring technique is that as the colour isn’t applied up to the roots, there is less maintenance. Styling can also be easier as the sweeping highlights already bring flow and texture to your hair.
